The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) is a Technical Society of Engineering Australia and a Technical Group of Engineering New Zealand formed to further the interests of the railway industry at large and its individual participants. In 2023 the RTSA is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The RTSA has 6 chapters across Australasia and represents approximately 2000 members. The objectives of the RTSA are: to stimulate the active contribution and participation of its members in the development and dissemination of railway technology and management knowledge, to support the business of the railway industry; to provide for the continuing professional development of its members; and to promote close working relationships amongst participants in the railway industry. RISSB is industry’s partner in co-regulation, focusing on Standards, Codes of Practice, Guidelines and Rules; Safety Data and Risk Analysis Models; Training and Advice; Events and Programs; Industry Co-Ordination.
RISSB supports and works hand in hand with the Australian and New Zealand rail industry to provide the essential tools rail organisations need – good practice Standards, Codes of Practice, Guidelines and Rules. RISSB is the only accredited Standards development organisation for the rail industry in Australia and has a vast catalogue of more than 200 publications, all of which help industry improve safety, reduce costs and increase productivity and efficiency. RISSB publications can also be used in New Zealand.
RISSB fosters knowledge sharing and networking through its various forums, groups and committees and works collaboratively with the Australian rail industry to harmonise safety practices across the country.
