Mac Point

Mac Point is the largest urban renewal project in Tasmania’s history and sits alongside Hobart’s iconic waterfront and CBD.

The 9.3-hectare site will deliver an innovative arts, culture, tourism, and science precinct, becoming a truly extraordinary space for Tasmania and building on the state’s internationally renowned reputation.

Mac Point will create a place where Tasmania’s past, present and future meet. The site will consist of seven precincts where Tasmanians can visit, work, or even call home. Among these will be the potential for residential and visitor accommodation, retail, office space and a state-of-the-art Antarctic and Science Precinct. Half of the site will also be dedicated to open space – an inclusive area which will represent culture and reconciliation.

The Corporation is in the process of remediating the site after more than 200 years of industrial use. To date, the Corporation has removed the equivalent of 10 Olympic swimming pools of contaminated soil, and physically remediated more than 80% of the site.

With remediation close to completion, the Corporation has commenced the process of permanent development through its first land parcel, The Escarpment, and releasing its largest parcel, The District, to market.
