Tasmanian Government State Planning Office

The Tasmanian Government’s State Planning Office is building a better planning system to facilitate the sustainable development and future prosperity of Tasmania. 

We aim to create world class liveable and equitable communities and protect Tasmania’s values and resources through setting planning policy and promoting best practice strategic planning. 

The Tasmanian Government has embarked on significant planning reforms that the State Planning Office is coordinating in consultation with all our major stakeholders. These will standardise and simplify processes across the State, better articulate the Government’s policy positions and revitalise the regional planning framework. 

To support planning professionals, local councils and the general public, we also provide information and advice about Tasmania’s planning system and the reforms. We collaborate with other bodies on a range of strategic planning matters.
