 There are some amazing tours to choose from – it will be tricky to settle on just one! 

 Each tour has been designed to showcase the region – designed by planners that are locals so you will get the absolute lowdown on whichever tour / region you chose to go on. 

 Tours have STRICTLY limited numbers – first in best dressed – so be sure to secure your spot ASAP. If tours are SOLD OUT, we are happy to put you on a wait list should a place become available.

Pricing for Study Tours is listed below; these costs are not included in full registration fees and are available to purchase for the additional expenses outlined below under full or half day options.

On-country activity: Darwin Harbour Cruise

2:00pm | Delegates walk from DCC to Stokes Hill Wharf
2:30pm | depart for harbour cruise
4:30pm | return from harbour cruise
5:00pm | delegates return to DCC

Step aboard "Flatback" & "Olive Ridley", vessels named after two turtle species found in the NT, and journey with the Larrakia Land & Sea Rangers to uncover the treasures of Darwin Harbour!

SOLD OUT! Tour 1 – Exploring innovation in water resource management

This study tour will explore the long-term viability and sustainability of water management in the Northern Territory’s Top End. The region experiences more than 95% of its rainfall between October and April, typically exceeding 600mm annually. With seasonal runoff of over 0.5ML per hectare in most years, questions arise about whether we are effectively managing these water resources.

This tour will provide a comprehensive view of water resource management in the Top End, exploring the balance between environmental sustainability, economic development, and the perspectives of local Indigenous communities.

This tour will provide broad discussions on the Northern Territory’s key industries and the evolving economic landscape, with a particular focus on its major infrastructure projects. Such as Middle and East Arm Precinct's.

Through these projects, the Northern Territory is positioning itself as a key player in Australia’s economic future, especially in the energy sector, while balancing the need for environmental sustainability and long-term growth.

Darwin's housing landscape is shaped by its unique history and environmental challenges. The city and its suburbs were entirely rebuilt after the devastation of WWII bombings and, once again, after the destruction of Cyclone Tracy. This tour offers an in-depth exploration of Darwin’s housing evolution, from the impact of extreme heat, humidity, and cyclone safety codes to innovative approaches in residential design.

This tour will offer a candid examination of Darwin’s housing spectrum, comparing the old with the new, the successes with the challenges, and climate-resilient designs with those that have fallen short. It’s an honest look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of housing in the Top End.

Having been devastated four times by cyclones and wartime conflict, Darwin has repeatedly rebuilt itself, emerging stronger each time. This tour will delve into the city’s remarkable resilience and the critical role of planning in its recovery.  The tour begins with a Bombing of Darwin Boat Cruise on the stunning Darwin Harbour, where participants will reflect on the events of WWII that shaped the city’s history. Next, hear a personal recollection of the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy, exploring the planning and resilience strategies that guided the city's rebuilding efforts.This immersive experience offers a unique perspective on how Darwin has overcome adversity and transformed itself into a modern, thriving city.
