YARNS

MEET THE PIA KNOWLEDGE CIRCLE

PIA Knowledge Circle Members in attendance: Elle Davidson, Sam Alderton-Jones, Deborah Swan, Jesse Marnock,
Michelle Howard, Ed Wensing, and Rechelle Brookes*.

The PIA Knowledge Circle is an Indigenous-led group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous built and natural environment leaders who are guiding PIA to better support Planning with Country across the planning industry. With expertise in strategic and statutory planning, research, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement, policy development, urban design and legislative reform, this group is playing a pivotal role in changing planning practice to be more Culturally informed and deliver improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In this session you will have direct access to the specialist expertise of the Knowledge Circle members to ask your tricky questions, unpack challenges in your own practice and explore how to elevate your impact on your projects. Bring your questions and ponderings for an interactive Yarn. We look forward to meeting with you and sharing our knowledge and learnings! *Please note, this is subject to change.

ALLIES COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE YARNING CIRCLE

Facilitator: Michelle Howard, Collaborations

As Allies we are always learning as we build a new planning practice that is Country-centred. In this session we will learn from ‘the best’, that is those who have won their state ‘Planning with Country’ award category and been nominated for the national awards.

These project range across conservation, tourism, community empowerment, infrastructure initiatives, cultural mapping and design. Each project actively engaged with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Owners, often as partners, to change planning and design practice and outcomes.

Together we will explore some of the lessons from working with a Country-centred approach and how we can apply these to our own practice.
