SUPPORTER

As the ACT Government’s Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate, we are shaping the nation’s capital into a world-class city and making it a great place to live, work and play. Together with our community, we are delivering a 'liveable and sustainable city' that leads the nation in achieving sustainable outcomes.

The Directorate develops and implements policies and programs across city planning and development, climate change and the environment. We deliver on the ACT Government’s priorities through policies and programs in the areas of built environment, land strategy, planning policy, urban renewal, building policy, development and leasing applications, environment, water policy, heritage, nature parks, nature conservation, climate change and energy. We include the independent planning and land authority, which manages development assessment and administers the Territory Plan.

We are currently reforming our planning system to deliver a clear, easy-to-use planning system that is outcomes focussed and encourages improved spatial and built outcomes across the Territory. Key reforms include a new Planning Act, a new Territory Plan and the introduction of district strategies to sit under the overarching ACT Planning Strategy.
