WELCOME RECEPTION SPONSOR

The City of Adelaide is at the geographic heart of Kaurna Country. In 2018, the Kaurna people were officially recognised as the Traditional Owners of the Adelaide region, the first time that Native Title was granted for land in an Australian capital city. Adelaide continues to recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land and draws on Kaurna knowledge for the management of the city.

The design of the City of Adelaide was a genius of foresight, in place and plan. Colonel William Light created a ‘city in a park’, a distinctive grid pattern of wide streets bounded by terraces and surrounded by 760 hectares of beautiful National Heritage listed Park Lands. Adelaide is Australia’s 1st National Park City and only the 2nd in the world (after London) to receive this honour. It is a city where built form is in balance with nature, providing an environment in which its people can live well.

Adelaide has an enviable reputation as a lifestyle capital city, a dynamic festival city, a UNESCO City of Music and a safe and accessible city. It is a city renowned for its heritage and character, connected and partnering with its Kaurna community. Adelaide has developed a global reputation as a place of innovation and opportunity, home to world-changing ideas and projects, where enterprise and growth is sustainably nurtured.

Adelaide’s spirit of planning thoughtfully and with foresight has never been more important. To stay ahead of current and emerging issues, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, population growth and climate adaptation, the City of Adelaide is building its next City Plan. This will inform and shape the policies that strengthen the capital city economy, encourage a dynamic and diverse city culture, provide strong environmental leadership and enable Adelaide’s diverse communities to thrive.
