The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) has State-wide responsibility for urban, rural and regional integrated strategic and statutory land use planning and land development, working in conjunction with both state and local government. The WAPC operates with the support of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage which provides professional and technical expertise, administrative services and corporate resources to assist its decision-making.

The WAPC operates with a vision of creating better places to live and work for all Western Australians with a mission to ensure the planning system develops policy and enables planning decisions for the long-term benefit of the Western Australian community.
